TEF IRN Certification Exam
The TEF IRN is intended for any foreign national over the age of 16 who wishes to certify their level of French in order to apply for French nationality or a long-term resident card. This exam is specifically designed to assess proficiency in the French language according to criteria set by the French Ministry of the Interior.
If you are applying for naturalization, you must achieve a B1 level. If you are applying for a long-term resident card, the minimum required level is A2 of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
TEF IRN Test Components:

Listening comprehension (10 minutes – 17 questions)

Reading comprehension (30 minutes – 13 questions)

TEF IRN sessions are organized throughout the year. Exam availability depends on the testing center where you wish to take the exam: Noisy-Le-Grand (93), Pantin (93), or Saint-Denis – Stade de France (93). You can take the exam by appointment.
